The drive from San José's international airport (SJO) to Jaco Beach is a beautiful one — but it's also about two hours after you clear customs. If you'd rather start your trip with a glass of something cold at the villa instead of in traffic, there's a faster, far more memorable way in: a private helicopter transfer straight to the Jaco / Los Sueños area. As the team that handles the details for VIP groups, weddings and bachelor weekends in Jacó, here's the honest rundown on how it works.
Roughly 35–40 minutes instead of two hours
A helicopter from the San José area down to the coast takes about 35 to 40 minutes in the air — compared with the ~2-hour road transfer. You trade the winding mountain highway for a smooth, direct line over the Central Pacific hills and coastline, landing near the Los Sueños Resort & Marina at Bahía Herradura, just minutes from Jacó and the villas. From the air you get the kind of views most visitors never see — green ridgelines rolling straight down to the blue of the bay.

Who flies you
For these transfers we work with a trusted Costa Rican helicopter charter operator based at Tobías Bolaños International Airport in San José — the general-aviation field about five nautical miles northwest of the city, which makes it very convenient for a San José pickup. Founded and run by helicopter pilots, the team brings more than 25 years of aviation experience, and reviews consistently praise their professional crews, punctuality and the easy, attentive service — plus pilots who double as knowledgeable sightseeing guides. We handle the arrangements and booking for you.

Inside the cabin
These aren't bare utility helicopters — the cabins are finished for comfort, with leather seating, big windows and panoramic visibility so every seat gets the view.

Make it scenic: see Costa Rica from the air
Because the pilots guide as they fly, your transfer can double as a sightseeing flight. The scenic routes take in Arenal, the Irazú and Turrialba volcanoes, Rincón de la Vieja and the Pacific coast, Isla Chiquita, and the Talamanca rainforest — many of which can add a landing or be customized around your own itinerary. It's an unforgettable way to turn "getting to the villa" into a highlight of the trip.

Who it's perfect for
- VIP groups & special occasions — it turns the transfer itself into part of the experience.
- Weddings & bachelor/bachelorette weekends — a head-turning arrival for the couple or the guest of honor.
- Short trips — when you don't want to lose half a travel day to the road in each direction.
- Anyone who'd rather fly — comfortable, scenic, and genuinely quick.
A helicopter seats a small group — up to seven passengers depending on the aircraft (plus luggage limits) — so for a bigger crew we can combine it with our private van service for the rest of the party and the bags.

A few honest things to know
A helicopter transfer is a premium option, and a couple of practical notes keep expectations straight:
- Departure point: flights leave from Tobías Bolaños in San José (the general-aviation airport), not the international terminal itself, so there's a short ground hop and check-in on the front end.
- Weather & daylight: Tobías Bolaños operates under visual-flight conditions, so flights are weather- and daylight-dependent and timing is built around your arrival and the conditions.
- Pricing & availability change: we don't publish a fixed rate here because it depends on the date, group size and aircraft — message us and we'll get you a current quote.
What should you expect to pay?
Helicopter charters are priced per flight, not per seat, and the final number depends on the aircraft, taxes, minimum flight charges and any landing arrangements. As a planning guide, here's a rough budget for a private transfer to the Jacó / Los Sueños area:

Good to know: booking & cancellation
A few standard terms so there are no surprises — we'll walk you through all of it when you book:

- Payment is due in full 24 hours before departure.
- Cancellations within 24 hours carry a 25% penalty. If the flight is cancelled for weather, you get free rescheduling or a refund within 7 days.
- No-shows: being more than 20 minutes late may mean the flight departs without a refund, so plan to arrive early.
We'll handle the whole arrival
The helicopter is just the entrance.
