This stretch of the Central Pacific produces good fishing in every month of the year. What you hook depends on the season, but the usual suspects are mahi-mahi, sailfish, marlin, tuna, roosterfish, snapper, and wahoo. Share your dates with us and we'll tell you what's running when you visit.
It comes down to your time and your goals. A half day suits beginners, families, and anyone who wants a taste without a full commitment. A full day lets the captain push much farther offshore, which opens up far better shots at billfish and the bigger pelagic species.

It comes down to how you want your days to go. Jacó is the walkable town with the nightlife and the biggest group houses. Playa Hermosa is quieter, about ten minutes south, and built around serious surf. Los Sueños is a gated resort community with golf, a marina, and upscale homes.
All three sit within roughly 20 minutes of each other, so wherever you land you're never far from the other two. Tell us your vibe and group and we'll point you to the right one.
Absolutely — plenty of groups do. A few nights in Los Sueños for the fishing or golf, then over to Jacó for the back half of the week. Since the drive between any two areas is short, moving mid-trip costs you an afternoon at most.

Three to six months for high season, which runs New Year through May — and earlier still for the biggest villas, since the 15-plus bedroom houses go first. Green season, roughly June through November, is far more flexible.
Juan Santamaría (SJO) in San José is the one — about 1.5 to 2 hours from all three areas by private van. Liberia (LIR) is much farther and not worth it for this coast.
